A disturbing novel that will resonate with anyone who as a teenage had a summer that you did not what to do, did not know who to love, who loved you and were generally bored with life, your parents and school.
There are wonderful passages which as a reader you savour such as the first time Evie saws “the girls”. Cline captures the uncertainly of young teenagers, the fear of not fitting in or looking different so well that as a reader you are pulled back to your own teenage years.
With elegant and sparse writing there is not a word wasted in the book and it’s a highly accomplished debut novel.
Loosely based on the Manson murders this book is sure to be a major hit in 2016. Published in June 2016.
